Feymania: Cameroon man gets 10-year sentence in east China for fraud
A Cameroon national was sentenced to a 10-year jail term for fraud in Shanghai, local authorities said Wednesday. The man, Massango Priso Muna, pretended to be an assistant to an official with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and fraudulently obtained 1.015 million yuan (149,264 U.S. dollars) from a Chinese woman, according to the No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court.The court heard that the victim, surnamed Lin, met a man online in June 2008 who called himself John Lipsky and claimed to be an IMF vice president. Lin soon fell in love with the man, and the latter proposed marriage. “Lipsky” told Lin a month later that he planned to invest in China and would send his assistant Samco to meet her. The suspect met Lin at a hotel in Shanghai, giving her a suitcase and telling her that they needed a special chemical to make the money inside useable. The Cameroonian borrowed 1.015 million yuan from Lin under the pretense of buying this chemical, before leaving China on Aug. 12.Police caught him on Nov. 20 when he returned to China.
Massango Priso Muna was fined 100,000 yuan and will be deported after he is released from jail.

Cameroonian feymen in China are increasingly giving us a bad name. Two months ago in Shenzhen, 9 were a arrested for trying to scam a Chinese lady. Now this. Well I have news for feymen. Chinese prisons are ugly places to be in. Worse than Kondengui and guess what as a black man in prison in China, you are screwed big time. So my advice- DON’T. There are lots of legal ways to make money in China. But I am talking to greedy and lazy people who think that there is a shortcut to making money. If you can scam someone, it means you also have the brains to do smart things that can earn you money in a legal way. I feel ashamed sometimes to call myself Cameroonian here.
sweat deal but it would have been sweater if he had about 2o years idiot. these guys make life difficult for others here with the authorities and visa issues, two or three more then cameroonian won’t get any chinese visas, so bad cameroonians living in shanghai particularly for this case and china as a whole will face uphill tasks having new visas and all related. i wish these guys can be given life when arrested

BS, this story never took place in shanghai , but in the south of china and it was 2 Nigerians actually involved. The people who wrote this story actually twisted the real facts. The real fact was actually related in the chinese official english newspaper.

In spite of such an ugly outcome, there are still many Cameroonians back home and in the diaspora who keep on believing that they’re too clever and will outsmart people in other countries for the fast buck without getting caught. If ignorance had given way to reason, this guy would have understood that in spite of the glamor of its economic success, China is nominally a communist dictatorship where the layers of security overlap to levels that are apparent to a Chinese, but not to the foreigner living in China. So he considered it safe to return to China for another deal without contemplating the Chinese secret police that never sleeps nor forgets. He probably also forgot to know that as a black man, he was an easy target for the Chinese security to handle. If the local media in Cameroon reported stories like these, then it might serve to reduce the propensity of other adventurers in the country to undertake similar missions of high-stake gamble and deceit.

Going by the earlier statement by the Admin of this site, I trust Xinhua News as a reliable and dependable source of information about China and other far-flung corners of the developing world. If it did not happen, Xinhua News could not have invented the Cameroonian name of Massango Priso Muna to associate it with the story. China might be a filthy country, but its economic attraction is responsible for the influx of human and financial capital more than any other country on the face of the earth. No foreigner has ever gone to another country to tell them how he/she wants to be treated. The question to Cameroonians who engage in this practice is: can they not think of something else to do other than using chemicals to wash bad money into good ones? Doing the same thing over and over again simply makes them look stupid especially as the amount of money involved is chicken change compared to the prison term.

I also know Chinese are just more than happy to capitalize on a blackman’s offence and further their stereotype. But do not give them reason to. I felt ashamed in the office when a newspaper showing 9 cameroonians arrested on the front page of Shenzhen Daily showed up in my office. While I criticized the negative image and the fact that white guys who do same are not subject to such treatment, it still does not make the feymen right.
As a black man in a white or yellow man’s world, you are an animal until your actions prove the contrary. And to be honest a good action will earn you respect and a change of view of us black people. Trust me, the image can also quickly change for the better as I saw with Obama’s election.
