Laporta: Guardiola Wants Eto’o Stay

There have been various reports and speculation over the past week about Barcelona’s activities in the transfer market, especially where players such as Samuel Eto’o, David Villa and Robinho are concerned. The club’s president, Joan Laporta, has decided to come out and shed some light on their current dealings while he continues to take a jab at ferocious foes Real Madrid. The main topic of discussion was Eto’o and the drawn-out contract talks and for the umpteenth time, Laporta has reiterated his desire to see the Cameroonian remain at the Camp Nou.“He has only a year left in his contract and it is normal to meet to discuss his plans, the evaluate his conditions, and to look for the best solution,” he said in an interview on Onda Cero programme ‘Al Primer Toque’.“I want him to remain at Barca for many more years to come and Pep Guardiola shares the same sentiment,” he added, quashing rumours that the coach wants the striker gone due to destabilising, ongoing arguments between the pair.

Laporta then went on to touch briefly on each player that the Blaugrana have been recently linked to, from Franck Ribery to Filipe Luis.

“Bayern does not want to sell Ribery. As for Villa, there have been conversations with Valencia and no one has ever told me that he prefers to go to Madrid,” he divulged.

“Robinho is an outstanding player, but I do not know of any contacts with him. [Javier] Mascherano is also a great player, while Filipe is interested.

“The claims made by Inter regarding [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic are very significant, but I do not know how this episode will end.”

The focus then shifted to their arch nemeses, and the Blaugrana chief did not miss the opportunity to slate Los Blancos and their president, Florentino Perez, again.

“Barca and Madrid have two very different models. One has a culture of enterprise and industry while the other has a ruthless obsession with money and power,” he emphasised.

“That’s the only way to explain what Madrid have done, the way they just break into the transfer market no matter the cost, without considering the negative connotations.

“But now, they will be under even more pressure because of the magnitude of their investment.”

This is really pitiful, because they cannot afford another player, they want eto’o to stay. Anyway I just hope that samy is aware of everything happening and will leave that club even for a lower salary. I still don’t believe that just few days after the end of the incredible season he had and that goal which changed the champions final he was already in the market. They same laporta who is now claiming as loud as he can that he want eto’o to stay met morati to discuss eto’o leave the just a week after the end of the leagua. there is no shame in business but shame on you laporta. Samy deserve better than that

  2. I agree with you John ( sorry for my English), I’d like to add by saying that Eto’o was the man of the last champions league final who disheartening Manchester’s United plan , unfortunately most of news paper in Europe said that Messy was the man who gave the trophy to Barcelona. WRONG. even Alex Ferguson recognize it. Just to say that Eto’o Fils is a VIP in Barcelona. now if Barcelona’s staff are procrastinate on him ( we want him we don’t want him) it’s because they are hypocrite. If he stay there may be he will not gonna play enough match next year. anyway something will happen. let and se.
My advise to our fellow Eto’o will be to give up Barcelona, Manchester City is also a good destination for him. That’s a club of future, they are making some good recruiting for the next season.
    Eto’o take a good decision.

This guy is just not getting the credit he deserves. Its about time for him to move on to a team that will appreciate his talent and pay him the salary he merits.Eto’o determined Barcelona’s fate in that champions league final.Barcelona was outplayed in the early minutes of that game until Eto’os goal in the 9th minute helped turn things around in barca’s favor. In addition,he was the second highest goal scorer in la liga last season. What more can you ask from a striker? It is evident that guardiola doesn’t like this guy at all,but Eto’o has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he is a world class striker.I dont mind him moving to either Man city or inter Milan.Good luck Eto’o as you make your decision .

Azogo, all i can say after all you have said is “… guardiola” I start his name with a lowercase “g” cuz he’s a fucking common jackass racist!!! he’s … jealous of Eto’o but cannot stop Eto’o’s shine.Eto’o is the best in that fucking Barcelona F.C.Was about getting an original Barcelona Jersey but … THAT,it don’t mean … now!!!

i just want to ask this question Eto has been a prolific player of this years he has played two champion league final and became outstanding in them,he is the highest goal scorer ever in the African cup of nations, trio african player of the year,he became second highest goal scorer in Europe ahead of Diego forland with 30 goals,he is third in the record of scoring in Spanish league.so is this a matter of racism or performance?????

It’s simply a personality problem between player and coach. We must all accept that apart from the game on the pitch … there’s another game that plays out in the media (radio, TV, newspapers) and Eto’o is better at that than most other players of his standing. Coaches don’t take kindly to players with an independent mind and a strong sense of presence. We might not be privileged to see what goes on within the dressing room at Barcelona, but Eto’o seems to pull a lot of weight with his team mates and that does not make Joseph Guardiola quite comfortable. The retention of Eto’o within the Barcelona squad last year was mainly due to pressure from Lionel Messi, Thierry Henri, and others who spoke very favorably of their desire to have him as a team mate. Having been witness to the often uneasy relationship between Frank Rijkaard (former Barca coach) and Eto’o, Guardiola came to the job with a desire to show everyone whom the boss is. On a personal level, Eto’o is fully aware that apart from the money, he should be looking at another club with Champions League ambitions and Manchester City does not possess that currently. Barcelona is walking a tight rope because the two new signings at Real Madrid (Kaka and Ronaldo) promises to make La Liga very competitive. My guess is that if Eto’o gets a new contract at Barcelona, it will only be as good as Barcelona stays on top … or else he’ll be put on their transfer list and sold to any other club for chicken change.

  8. Cameroon Ndzerem from Cameroon says:

Guardola did everything to side play Etoo, but he still shone well last season. The first matches he either replaced Etoo before the match became fully in gear,or he brought Etoo just for a few minutes. Yet Eto’o shone! Most often the prefered Messi would refused passing to Eto’o.

Furthermore, each time Eto’o scored and jubilate towards Guardola, he would either snob or will be nonchalant! Best solution for him,Leave Barca because he will have the worst treatment from Guardola this season

  9. Cameroon Theophilus from Cameroon says:

The only advice I have for Eto is for him to quit Barca. Eto, you have done your best in that team by winning two champions’ leaque trophies, the Spanish La Liga title, Spanish cup and pichichi. What do you want again in the face of people like Guardiola, who has consistently demonstrated his dislike for you, despite your miraculous talent. If Laporta was the coach of Barca, I would have advised you to stay; but Barca under Guardiola, NOOOOOOOO. You will not feature in Guardiola’s line-up if you decide to stay in Barca. Please go to Man City or Man United. You know that it is because of you that Barca is the most popular European team in Cameroon. If you make it to City or Man U, we shall follow you there with our support. Wish you good.

  10. South Africa ayong from Gauteng, South Africa says:

Eto’o you have done it all at Barca, now is the time to prove to Guardiola that it is not Barca that made you but it was you that made them win every cup available. PLEASE go to Man City and NOT Inter. Man City are building a new team with exciting players who will play your style of football and you can help Man City be a champion league winner. That will be a great legacy for you.

ETO U ARE A GREAT PLAYER. PEP GUARDIOLA DOES NOT RESPECT U. U HAVE DONE ALOT FOR BARCA. U WILL EXCEL ANY WHERE U GO TO. PLEASE DO MOVE TO MAN UNITED OR MAN CITY. U WILL A GREAT CAREER THERE. BE STRONG BRO
