Cameroon To Play A Friendly Against Austria
The match will be a warm up for the Indomitable Lions ahead of a crucial 2010 qualifier against Gabon in September.
The Cameroonian football governing body, FECAFOOT, has given its approval for a friendly match between the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and the Austrian national football team, expected to take place on August 12, 2009 in Vienna. The match will serve as preparation for the World Cup qualifier against Gabon, as the encounter will take place three weeks before the two African nations face off.Besides the qualification expectation weighing down on the Cameroonians, the match will be the first under the reign of Zoah Michel as Minister of Sports and Physical Education. His appointment raised question as to whether the college of trainers put in place by the former Minister, Augustin Thierry Edjoa, would be maintained. According to the Cameroon Tribune, prior to Edjoa’s removal from government, rumours were rife that he had made a commitment with FECAFOOT and the official sponsor of the Indomitable Lions, Puma, to search for a foreign coach for the national team.
The sports equipment company had even been given the green light to hire a new coach, preferably of German nationality.
With time ticking away, the appointment of Minister Zoah Michel, takes both ministry and federation officials back to the drawing board. Cameroon’s position in the joint qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations in Angola and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa is looking shaky at the moment.
The Indomitable Lions are last in their group with one point after a stunning defeat against Togo in their first match before they had to settle for a barren draw against the Atlas Lions of Morocco in Yaounde.
Though qualification is still possible for the Indomitable Lions, there is no more margin for error.

Please we do not want to rely on old stones. If Brazil can win the confederations without Ronaldino, I think we can also form a good team without Eto and Song.
how can cameroon be playing against austria for a test match? Austria is not even in the first 50 countries on the fifa world rankings. We need to evaluate our selves by playing against big football nations such as Italy, Germany, netherlands, etc.Remember that this is in preparation for the world cup qualification.the old heads(song,Geremi, wome, and even Eto’o) need to sit on the sidelines and watch the up and coming stars take us to the first world cup on african SOIL.
Let fifafoot and mimisters leave the head coach to draw his line up and call up his players. we know that most ministers have their players who pay them to enter into the pitch.eto’o should enter the pitch during the secong half of play and song and gerimi should not even enter. A first fool is not a fool but the second is the big fool let not be
Playing against this weak European team will not help Cameroon. They should play against a strong African side in Africa with similar conditions which the will face in Gabon. Last time in preparation for a match in Yaoundé, Cameroon was training in Belgium till two days before the match!!!! When they got to Cameroon, they were even more strange that the Moroccan who were training some where in Africa with similar conditions. Let stop being so confuse. I think Austria will definitely win this friendly.
God bless the “domitable” Lions of Cameroon.
Another poor decision. The new boy incharge of sports and PE should scrap this planned match against Austria or arrange for it to be played in Cameroon and preferably in Limbe or Bamenda. Austrians are not a world footballing power. Cameroon should be playing friendlies against the likes of Brazil, Argentina and Chelsea or Liverpool instead of wasting time against Austria. I lived in Brazil for 3 years and honestly, most Brazilians don’t like to be drawn against Cameroon and Nigeria. They believe these two teams on a good day can beat any team. So why do we belittle ourselves?
I think mamadou and the others are very correct. We are preparing for a match to be played on african soil, that is the qualifications in Gabon and the world cup.We only need to prepare the players to be used to the african soil where the event will take place.Lets stop fooling ourselves playing test matches with Austria and the rest. This is not going to help us.I think people like ETO’O could negociate for friendly matches with Barcelone and other big clubs.
OH God bless the ‘indomitable lions’.
i am deeply so disappointed with the kind of teams cameroon often take for friendlies.e.g austria.this is a country with little or no soccer records. we need to test our nohow with strong teams like Brazil,Agentina,Germany etc. or clubs such as Barcelona,Real Madrid,Chelsea. to before war is to be for arm. the next friend should be with a very strong team.
