Turkish twins with different fathers ‘trigger divorce’
A Turkish man decided to divorce his wife after DNA tests showed he was the father of only one of their twin boys, the mass-circulation Sabah newspaper reported Friday.
Suspicious that his wife had been unfaithful the security guard from Istanbul identified only as A.K., had DNA tests performed on the three-year-olds.
The tests established with a 99.99-percent certainty that he was the father of only one of the boys, Sabah reported, adding that the result was confirmed by a forensic medicine institute upon the request of the court handling the ongoing divorce case.
The mother, identified as C.K., had maintained a relationship with a lover she had dated before her family forced her to marry A.K., the daily said.
The phenomenon of twins with different fathers — known scientifically as heteropaternal superfecundation — is very rare in humans, though more common in animals such as cats and dogs.
It becomes possible in rare circumstances when a woman produces two ova in one menstrual cycle, explained to AFP Professor Rusen Aytac, head of the gynaecology department at Ankara University’s medical faculty.
“And if this woman has sexual intercourses with two different men at short intervals, this can result in a twin pregnancy, with each egg carrying a different genetic material,” he said.
A.K. kept the boy he had fathered and disowned the other one, which ended up in a state care institution, Sabah said.
C.K., for her part, has received death threats both from her own and her husband’s family and secured a court order preventing relatives from coming within 500 metres (yards) of her, it added.

What a strange incident. Now the twins have to suffer for their mothers problem. Well this tells us,arrange marriage is not good.
Last year while in Italy,I read a similar story in an Italian magazine. It was about a black american couple and the DNA test had given similar results. The father of the family loved his wife and accepted both twins as his children. His,is an example to imitate. The child is innocent and would suffer if separated from its mother at such a tender age.Forced marriages in the 21st century!,are to be condemned whatever the culture and religion of the people concerned. Jumbam.
The problem is not really forced marriages here is it? The woman just wanted her cake and everything else! I am just sorry for these poor children bro! PS which Jumbam are you?
Is there a certainty that there was no baby echange?these things happen these days in hospital, somestimes accidentaly sometimes for a purpose. She might just be innocent and victim of some unfortunate circumstances. What about a maternity test? Is she really the mother of the boy? I believe before we pass judgement all these should be considered.
If all these are poven, the father is been very cruel to the other child who happens to be innocent of the mother’s wrong doing.
Arranged marriages? too bad
You have a point
If she has admitted having an extramarital affair, then I think the state or court will base their decision on the paternity test and not waste resources on a maternity test ( for a country like turkey)
Too Bad
