Cameroon a Haven of Peace, Says Its U.S. Ambassador

Joseph Bienvenu Charles Foe-Atangana
Cameroon’s ambassador to the United States said his country is a “haven of peace” in central Africa.
Joseph Bienvenu Charles Foe-Atangana said he has launched a program to reach out to Cameroonians in the United States.
“Cameroonian students, like every Cameroonian, they should know that the embassy is their house. I used to consider myself as the servant-in-chief. I told them on the 29th of May that, if you don’t come to me, I will come to you,” he said.
Ambassador Foe-Atangana attended the national convention of the Lebang Cultural and Development Organization in the United States held recently in Maryland, outside Washington, DC.
The Lebang is one of Cameroon’s ethnic groupings.
He also said U.S.-Cameroon relations are good and based on mutual friendship.
“After the independence, the USA was the first country to open a counselor mission in Douala. Our relations are based on friendship. You know that we have no problem between our two countries. We are strengthening our cooperation in various ways,” he said.
Ambassador Foe-Atangana also said Cameroon has 148 political parties something he said is an indicator of multi-party democracy.
But, critics say many of those political parties are financed by long-time President Paul Biya to create the semblance of democracy.
“In Cameroon, you have 148 political parties. There are some countries in Africa who don’t have any party and say that’s (an) advance in democracy. We have 47 private radio and television (outlets). Please, is that not an indicator of a country in democracy?” he said.

Embassy of the Republic of Cameroon, Washington, DC
Ambassador Foe-Atangana said Cameroon is proud of its achievements in democracy after just 50 years since independence.
He said Cameroon should not be compared to countries like the United States with over 200 years of independence and experience.
He said Cameroon is only asking the United States and other Western nations to help Cameroon achieve its development goals.
Ambassador Foe-Atangana said there are no sacred cows in Cameroon when it comes to the fight against official corruption.
“First of all, go to the TV. You will see a message pass every day saying that everybody who is a victim of corruption, you will call this number and receive free assistance. Secondly, Cameroon is the only country that pushes the bottom very high. How many former officials are in prison? And, there is not sacred cow,” Ambassador Foe-Atangana said.
He said foreign business people also have a role in the fight against corruption in Africa.
Ambassador Foe-Atangana said Cameroon is a haven of peace in central Africa.
“Look at the sub-region of central Africa. We are the only country, for now, living in peace. We are trying to do our development. We have only 50 years of existence. The only thing if they want to judge us is whether we are improving,” he said.
I refer you to the recent report by the International Crisis Group on Cameroon and to the Amnesty International report on the 2008 shooting to death of over 200 Cameroonians by Soldiers ,Gendarmes and Police .Is this peace?
Why would you even waste your time responding to this hypocrite? Just go to the embassy and speak English without a french accent and see how they treat you…..thieves. They are all a bunch of robbers.
He lies through his teeth like there is no heart in his chest. These are satanists who have lost their consciences and call the truth a lie and a lie the truth. I really wonder what people nearing their death are thinking!! Well, it is true that when greed bites a part of u; every other cell vies for a bite till u are totally consumed in wickedness, vampires. These wanks are taking advantage of peace-loving, hardworking and drunken Cameroonians to mean peace. Well, we haven’t reached the wall yet, there will certainly be a backlash so Mr keep pushing us…. ooops, they will not even be there; but where will they hide? God is watching though….Day of reckoning Mr Ambassador, you can’t lie, cheat or run forever!!! U heard? One day you will meet God and you will show Him the peace you were creating in Cameroon!!
Your right! This is just more lies! There is even no peace at the embassy. Going there is like going to a battle front. You have to arm yourself with missiles and roll in there with a tank. If not, you will get blown up!
Just look at his potrait again. Does he look lioke someone in peace??
I thaught he was scared of something.
May be scared of his own words and shaddow. Except we no longer analyse photos well
Mr Ambasador, say something else and relax
I don’t there is any peace in cameroon. How can there be peace in cameroon while people are being silent of their rights. I think my county man meant heaven of peace because there is no war in cameroon. How can there be peace while Cameroon is being ranked 1st when its come to corruption? People who merit positions are not given the opportunity to work, people minds are worries. Is that any heaven of peace when your mind is being worried?
Do not mixe both corruption and peace together. A country can be in peace and have corruption. Exemples are Italy , Greece, France etc. In cameroon there is freedom of speech as long as it does’nt put the security of the country in danger. that’s peace to the international community. “while people are being silent of their rights” if by that you mean the english part of the country which has it revendications. Trust me the will never get that because, it is writen in Cameroon history that French cameroon annexed english part of Cameroon.
And please do not come with some silly respons like calling a francophone boy ot what so ever because i had my education in cameroon in the englophone sector fron nursery school to GCE A level and my best subject was history.
thank you
I disagreed with you young man. Where is the peace in Cameroon? While are journalists being locked up everyday? How can you be talking about annexed in this context? Please go back to the drawing board and restart you Cameroon history.
Jean
You are a big fool,go away.
casara CasaVa …. you JACKASS!! You’re a bigger fool than Jean. Your ideas are always clouded, and one could hardly imagine what runs through your thick head sometimes. If we go judging by the old saying, “What you don’t know can’t hurt you,” you’d be practically invulnerable. Diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the ideas are unique unwellnesses you ignorantly boast of. That’s why calling you stupid would be an insult to stupid people. As far as I’m concerned, all that you are, you owe to your parents …. so why don’t you just send them a penny and square the account? Never you; CasaVa, enter a battle of wits unarmed … well, I just mean …
GO BACK TO SCHOOL!!!
crye the midget illiterate school master
you remain and would for ever be the moron of this forum.Think you could compete for moron of the year? tbh.I can’t blame you confused Muppet at all, cos’ things in life aren’t always quite what they seem ,there’s more than one given angle to any one given scene.Bottom line is,you have an IQ of .01.I pity you poor refugee camp dweller, don’t you have some thing better to do?keep up with your whinging, and posturing bleat all the time, fool.
Constipation of ideas….NOT THE IDEAS…MORON!!!
MB
Don’t mind that idiot called crye.I don’t have time to spare correcting that lunatic, cos’ he is real rubbish. Impostor number one of all times. That’s is why, he is labeled the midget illiterate school master. An empty vessel.
Casara, don’t worry! By the time I finish with him, he’ll be cold turkey.
So Mr. Jean …. Noooooo wonder!!!
…. The GCE A’ Level is the overhead ceiling of your total years of genuine education. And after that, you count among those who falsified UB transcripts, got admitted into the Swedish higher education system and got enrolled for a master’s degree …. Well, when that country’s admission authorities were still walking with their heads deep in the sand. In any case, you sound so illiterate I was thinking maybe you never even passed the O’ Level. You’re so retarded, Jean… so unfortunate. I really pity you when you talk about our disses being a source of entertainment for you while you work in your office …… I’ve always wondered what kind of “office” that would be. Well, anyone could be given a small office for being the head of labourers packing crates in some manufacturing company or factory. The term “office” becomes more and more motleyed in usage these days.
Oh, my dear poor Jean!! …. I’m sure some half-wit gave you a piece of his mind, and you held tight on to it. That’s why one of my suppositions is that a guy with your IQ should have a pretty low voice too!
Crye, you are the most foolish boy i have come accros in my life,i doubt where you work in Guangdong, maybe you are one of them,i mean 419 guys, you have no idea inside that your empty head, you just strike on everybody even when there is something to learn, you may be an illiterate,i really doubt where and who can employ you with this your stupid manner.maybe you work in china is ashawo.
i wonder the peace he is talking about in a country where curruption is now lagalised .if yu look our situation today and compare fifty years behind then u know realy if we have peace or not.i do not appreciate this artitude of asking for help in all we do .how can he ask for help to develope our country when we have all the tools needed for development ?
may be he wanted to say HELL ON EARTH.
i wonder if that will be true after election
An Atangana for that matter. Well, he is doing a “good job” Do you know why, people? It’s because an ambassador is someone who is sent abroad to lie for his country. That’s how I define it! Period.
Why take a picture with the US flag in your background? It is supposed to be the Cameroon flag, or Cameroon and US flag together or none. Is he a US repreentative or politician? I still have to figure out.
Because he is a lunatic!
@Natyre, it means he is US citizen, and the buiding belongs to Cameroon with cameroon flag
MR Ambassador all you said is simply not true; do you know what the call “calm water” = you cannot say no in front of somebody who has guns. what are you calling PEACE / DEMOCRACY
last time something in this forum told me and usually it’s true ” your vote will not count” = peace/democracy ?
in 2008 citizens protested about constitution violated and they lose their lives = peace/democracy
journalism….= peace/democracy ?
we are not under monarchy and the head of State just want to dye on power = peace/democracy ?
how many are in prisons in Cameroon because they are against the Gov = peace/ democracy ?
I don’t want to go far.
THIS ELECTION CAMPAIGN WILL MAKE YOU VOMIT WHATEVER.WELL MR AMBASSADOR ASK YOUR COLLEGUES TO GIVE REPPORTS ON OUR COUNTRY, DON’T GIVE IT YOURSELF BCOZ WE KNOW WHAT YOU ARE HIDING. it is good to defend gloriously our country as you did but start to change this sadness first.
US blasts Cameroon’s human rights and democracy records
Wednesday, 21 April 2010 13:04
YAOUNDE–The Cameroon government gave a blind eye to many human rights abuses, including arbitrary killings by security forces in 2009, the United States government has said in a damning report.
As it sank in, the US ambassador Janet Garvey again called down the government for failing to make progress with democracy and not giving citizens the right to change their government.
Ms Garvey did not mention recent changes to the ELECAM law, but her comments in a speech delivered on her behalf to a group of civil society leaders at the embassy on Thursday, April 15, portrayed the US’s continued frustration with the controversial election body.
my man u need bitter cola,
Thanks brother, +2 Guiness. No war, does not mean peace nor democracy. this is a “calm water” Good!
RUBISHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PEACE BASED ON THE BARREL OF THE GUN.One will hear things from these lunatics.
look at your face, are you smilling or crying?liar.tell us police men, uniform and top government officials have peace in cameroon then i’ll agree with you.students were shot and many cameroonians have been killed by arm police cos they stood for their right.people keep quiet not because they can’t talk nor they enjoy a peaceful environment it’s cos they are subdued.say the right thing cos you think you have a right and see what will happen to you.
Tifman like u. Tis moroan is a real bandit. Ought to be in prison. Heaven of peace cos there u embazzel and steal like rats. You are a real idiot
why are the guys from china performing very poorly on this platform? Maybe they have been brain washed by communist china’s ideas.
Because you are stupid and you don’t understand the satire and sarcasm that a guy like Stephen used above.
better to be brain washed and enjoy freedom than stay in refugee camp for years or become a gay just because you are seeking an asylum.china is the most peaceful country i the world.
if only you get valid kwally and small job,if not,you must be na tif man or ashawo like crye
What does that mean? You are probably one of Biya’s people ripping what you did not sow…coward.
Maybe the absence of war with guns is peace…
If there is any peace in Cameroon, I think credit should be given the Almighty God who blessed Cameroon with all the natural resources(which are supposed to be used to develop the country, but are not being used well) such as fertile soils, oil, timber and many more. I think this dude called embassador is confusing people’s “satisfaction” with the little they can scrape from their farms with peace. I’d say he’d rather not say anything than tryna credit the cameroon government for keeping peace in Cameroon. Speaking of independence, think Cameroon got independent just about thesame time as South Korea. Let’s compare the level of development of S. K and Cameroon. Then we can have a good understand of what Cameroon has gained over 50years of existence.
HIHIHI paysans am surprise none of you can recognize the meaning of peace, so are we at war in Cameroon? friends you can be in the state or china or i don’t know let me tell you we are enjoying peace in Cameroon visit some of your neighboring countries, and enjoy the free and night life you have in Cameroon and you will tell me a story.
then why are you in Gambia?go back and enjoy the peace in pays
A bunch of YES – MEN called ambassadors ,You either paint a gold picture of cameroon abroard or you get fired.Yes you are on a very hot seat mister.
Ladies and Gentlemen !
To be fair to an extent, Truly there’s peace in Cameroon. Cameroon is the best State amongst all the other African states. Our problems are just Selfish Politicians and Poverty. Cameroonians are the best People in Africa, It’s a fact. We are respected in the World partly because of the Peace factor.
Let just pray that God should give us Better politicians that will enact powerful institutions and respect those institutions.
I am sure you all know what is cooking come 2012 in case Paul Biya and France play their usual foul……Thunder will fire them and this ambassador can already smell the rat. In order for peace to reign in Cameroon, we must fight all these criminals who call themselves leaders.
