Cameroon imposes curfew in Buea, capital of restive South West region

africanews | A curfew has been imposed in Buea, capital of the South West region of Cameroon, according to a communique issued by the governor of the region on Friday, November 10, 2017.

The preamble of the communication said the measure had been taken “considering some acts of terrorism perpetrated against the Forces of Law and Order by barbaric terrorists hiding among the population.”

Among the restrictions contained in the communique: the prohibition of the movement of commercial motor-bikes from 7 a.m. (in the evening) to 6 a.m; the suspension of all hunting activities with the use of fire arms.

Fire-arms are also banned during traditional ceremonies (burials, funeral celebrations etc.), the sale of fire arms and ammunitions are prohibited and owners of arms are to present themselves to the authorities.

A curfew had earlier been imposed by the North West region of Bamenda after persons the government described as ‘terrorists’ killed two gendarmes – paramilitary forces during a raid on a security checkpoint on Monday evening.

Information minister Issa Tchiroma told the AFP news agency that the attackers who were armed also took away the guns of the slain officers.

Local media portals have reported a mass exodus of young people from the region in the wake of the attack amid rising fear of reprisals and repression by the security forces. Already droves of people have fled the region into Nigeria, the United Nations refugee agency confirmed last week.

People in Cameroon’s anglophone regions – Northwest and Southwest – have long protested marginalization from the French majority. An attempt at declaring a symbolic independence in early October led to clashes that resulted in deaths, injuries and mass arrests.

An global security outfit, the International Crisis Group had cautioned in October that the state crackdown could lead to an armed uprising. The group was subsequently banned from actively covering the situation in the region.

Historical accounts show that despite being colonized by Germany, the country was split by Britain and France after the first World War. It was unified in 1961 and has since existed with the Anglophone and Francophone divide.

President Paul Biya is on record to have stated that the unity of the central African nation remained non-negotiable. He has condemned the violence and called for dialogue – which process has yet to be initiated.

The United States, the United Kingdom, the United Nations, European Union, African Union and other parties have all backed the call for dialogue and the need for the respect of the rights of protesters.

  1. (the prohibition of the movement of commercial motor-bikes from 7 a.m. (in the evening) to 6 a.m; )

This are the effects of assimilation and marginalization OF Abanzonian by LRC , we don’t need a translator to avoid such errors, it is 7:pm in the evening with a punctuation mark (:). This is misinformation, because what is written is different from what they intended . Before u put out an official/administrative MEMO you review and double check by experts in all domains especially during crisis.
Every day Issa Tchirouma is very arrogant speaking pidgin English over news media thinking he is speaking English. no matter how long a crocodile STAYS in water, it shall never become a fish.
When I look at this governor I see a PIT BUL (DOG)

  2. Once the occupying forces leave, Ambaland, shall be peaceful. The problem then,
is that the gov`t should obey the Ambazonian call of withdrawal, except, they want
war to justify their continuous killings etc of the people they have never liked.

  3. A curfew is not enough. Proclaim Martial Law and take it from there! The termites of Ambazombi nation claimed that they were striking on particular days; and they threatened people that wanted to go about their activities! The government responded somewhat lackadaisically, thereby enabling this regime of Ambazombi insanity to blossom.

Well, the time has come for the government to wake up from slumber and restore sanity. Those that had become so comfortable with the ‘days of strike’ will now have to adjust to the exercise of power by the state. This is not intended to be comfortable in any form; and the masses must experience something unprecedented.

  4. The termites had a conclave, the so-called 4th Conclave that was held recently in Nigeria. They came up with a wide array of horrific measures that are already being manifested across the nation. Interestingly, a conclave is supposed to be some type of private meeting where highly confidential discussions are held; and whatever is discussed is to be kept secret. In other words, nothing is to be filtered outside of the conclave venue by no participant.

As soon as the termites stepped out of the conclave venue, and felt the warmth of the sun, lo and behold, they started agitating frantically like confused insects that have been stimulated by sunlight… and they began talking… and talking. Many aspects of the discussions have already flown out of the conclave without any solicitation!

    • Hmmmm, I wonder why there is a lot of interest and a particular attention to details on what does not interest some people.
Are we beginning to eat our words?

  5. Don South West Pikin

Call them termites or what ever you want to,the fact is that they are making headlines in international news.To you Ras Tuge Cameroon is your heaven and I see you defending your god Paul Biya. But much to your surprise news about the people the Cameroon government has killed is already choking the regime .The Ambazonians are making Biya to panick like a sick chicken and as I write his government is floating. So no matter what some of you write here about Ambazonia ,it remains a strong force within the socio political climate of Cameroon and that is why the government is panicking.

    • Cameroon is my SHRINE. You fumble with it, you get yourself into serious trouble with me! You want war… and you are scared to fight like a man with seeds. Perhaps that war will be a necessity in removing that madness from your head. Like i’ve said before, that war you are searching for will be a bloody tribal war… so don’t ever kid yourself thinking that you will be up against some Francophones. You can continue with your delusional fantasy until reality straightens you up.

By the way, your so-called leaders have absolutely no clue when it gets to the underlying power dynamics at play. You fellows have miscalculated the situation… and you are underestimating the political intrigues at play… and you make blunder after blunder. You made Biya a god, a Fon of Fons, a prince of peace!

  6. @ DON south west pikin

what the hell are you talking about , who told you the government panick .

cameroon don put curfew for buea wouna see who its in control bastard piking ” ambasonia terrorist organisation ”

kept dreaming in your virtual world ” youtube”
    fake propaganda

he will be like that for more than one million years

paul biya most go but its not that way fool ?

    • You are nodoubt the one dreaming, nothing lasts forever. Saudi arabia is now draining it’s swamp, who ever thought? Trump is now in the process and by the time he’s done, evil parasite nations like LR and Co will surely confront their new realities at Den Haag (ICC). We’re now living in different times and so much is unfolding for a better world. Wait and see, the game changer is on the way, the writing is already on the wall.

    • Seriously, learn a little bit of English or express yourself in pidgin. It is still a language, you know.
Stop confusing the readers. I have no idea, what you are trying to say.

      • That’s what obtains when the million dollar question “Mais qui est Anglophone et qui est Francophone?” is swept under the carpet.

      • @Kedioh
The francophone need maturity. Are the Anglophones not more bilingual then you people?. It’s better you learn from him.We have proven our worth and difference to you people.DIVISION is on the way, open your eyes and see it.

    • When the people of East Timor said ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH WITH INDONESIA, Indonesians said they ere simply day-dreaming because the numerical strength of the Indonesian Army ( 2.3 million) was more than the population of East Timor (1.3 million).
Today, the citizens of Southern Cameroons have said that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH WITH LRC, citizens are repeating the same mistakes like the Indonesians. They think that Southern Cameroonians are simply playing to the gallery because the BIR will keep Biya’s so-called “Island of Peace” “one sand indivisible.
The truth of the matter is that the entity this is erroneously called LRC ( i.e. SC + LRC = LRC ) is dead. The genocide of October 1st was the game changer in this struggle . The genocide put the last nail in the ciffin of Biya’s 1984 LRC. BYE-BYE LRC

BYE-BYE LRC, BUEA HERE WE COME.

        • Catalonia, nkoh?.

If you think a few t-shirts, passports and/or flags is what it takes to divide a Nation (unique unlike others) then you better wake-up…

        • Catalonia NEVER voted in a referendum to join Spain. SC voted in 1961 to join in a FEDERATION OF TWO STATES EQUAL IN STATUS. Biya withdrew his LRC from the informal union in 1984

Catalonia NEVER had her independence recognized by the UN. SC became independent in 1961 by joining a FEDERATION OF TWO STATES EQUAL IN STATUS. LRV violated the informal union in 1984 when she restored her statehood called LRC, SC restored her statehood in 2017:
The BIR can NEVER EVER force Southern Cameroonians to remain in country that use helicopter gunship to kill its citizens.

Biya’s so-called “Island of Peace” is dead and buried. The present momentum is unstoppable.

        • Do you know the reason why Geobbels Tchiromsa, CrTv, Cameroon Tribune and LRC media outlets remained CONSPICUOUSLY SILENT about the message the UN Secretary General brought to Biya???

If not, permit me to assist you.

Biya informed the SG that he has already dialogued with the Anglophones. As proof, he presented copies of the reports of Musonge and Yang. Biya went further to explain that according to the findings in the reports, the Anglophones want DECENTRALISATION, the tarring of the Bamenda Ring road and the construction of the Victoria Seaport.

The SG told Biya that sending Anglophone CPDM sycophants to “dialogue” with Anglophone CPDM sycophants was not INCLUSIVE and GENUINE.
I have been reliably informed that he told Biya to revisit the ROOT CAUSE of the problem if the country

        • will remain “one and indivisible”.

The UN made it abundantly clear that the Anglophone Question can only be resolved through genuine and inclusive dialogue in the presence of the UN.

Simply put, the Anglophone Problem CANNOT be resolved by presidential decrees or with the help of the army..

The so-called Commission on bilingualism, the creation of a common law section at the supreme court and ENAM, etc are all therefore considered as COSMETIC MEASURES taken by presidential decrees and does not resolve the root causes of the problem.

Biya can therefore not avoid a GENUINE and INCLUSIVE round table dialogue with the Anglophones. The UN will serve as referee. The round table will discuss the form of the state, the name of the country, the flag of the country, etc.

        • There is just no way the Anglo prob is not going to be solved in this our time, it is no secret—no need to burn down CMR b4 acknowledging such truism.

          —launch—

        • I am happy to hear that from you. However, I can assure you that the Anglophone Question will NEVER EVER be resolved under Biya’s watch. Even if Biya signs a decree today introducing a Federation of two states equal in status, Southern Cameroonians will not accept. The UN must be involved as a witness in any solution.

          The reason is simple:

Biya singlehandedly signed a decree changing the name of the country to LRC without legislative participation
Biya singlehandedly signed a decree changing the name of my Victoria to Limbe without asking the opinion of the Chiefs of Victoria

Such a President can NEVER be trusted.

Southern Cameroonians will therefore never accept any solution imposed by Presidential decree. 2017 is NOT 1961.

        • @DALI DALI
          Bye, bye indeed my bro.

  7. Maswana Tokoyeli

Kamerun you are a bastard. You murderer and fucking hypocrite.Who do you think you can frighten? When you bastard francophones and sellout Anglophones use the gun to maintain a false peace do you think You have succeeded in bringing peace to Cameroon? You useless braggart .Why is it that Cameroon is always ranked amongst the worst of things in the world on global survey.Come to Botswana and see how a government is run not that your fake country called Cameroon. We here in Botswana know who you are and your fucking Cameroonian citizens are here as economic refugees. You shit man living on a primitive backward country called Cameroon and you still have the guts to make noise?

  8. @Ndinde
does bakassi was fight by embasonia ?

does the president of zimbabwe get arresting ?

does nigeria president ” Muhammadu Buhari” get arresting by murder more than 1000 igbos peoples just this year

does sudan president get arresting ?
does saub arabia king get arresting ” by killing people who were protesting this summer

does south africa president get arresting Jacob Zuma

does venezuala president get arresting Nicolás Maduro ?

does former george bush presindent get arresting “destroying iraq”

does the former french president get arresting ” by killing Muammar Gaddafi”

where its the fuck ICC will do all corrupt organization

    • What language have just written? You certainly have no idea or misinformed yourself and as a result couldn’t understand the message behind my write-up.

      • @Ndinde

my point was you needs to kept dreaming , therefore Cameroon its not a country to be divide .

  9. Issa Tchirouma & this colonial Governor illegally resident in the capital of Southern Cameroons are not helping matters for the Biya regime. These two are behaving like nitwits and seemed to have an issue with the people of Southern Cameroons. Biya would be advised to get rid of these two idiots sooner than later before things get worse. Cameroon -LR cannot fight Boko Haram Southern Cameroon, CAR issues and sooner an insurrection in LR. Are Bamilikes forgetting how the people of Southern Cameroons virtually saved them from Ahidjou and Biya killings in the day of Ndongmu and the so-called Marquissards.

  10. Cameroon is receiving a lot of international attention right now and that is good, very good. There is ample sympathy for FEDERATION as a way forward. But when applied to Cameroon, it has a deja Vu ring to it and experts are forced to go below the surface to discover how such a good thing was turned into the present mess.

FEDERATION was not intended to be a “winner take all” trophy. Nor was it intended as a “might makes right” governance. Seen in these perspectives, the abusive use of decrees to modify the Constitution, appoint mediocrities to Lord it over meritorious entities, the straightjacket system of despising the yearnings of others, the hubris of obdurately maintaining in place persons with manifest ineptitude and limitations, were allowed to ruin a good thing. There was never any

    • justification or rationalization of jettisoning so many institutions and practices that bore West Cameroon imprimatur, simply because that gave credit to a minority! How silly!

Decentralization makes no sense if locally elected mayors have centrally appointed government delegates foisted on them, local judges have their authorities undermined by transferring to the center cases that rightly belong in their jurisdictions. A system that does not provide for automatic resignation of officials whose performance create scandals is moribund. Above all, governing a nation of 20 million by chronic absenteeism is a disastrous lack of accountability to the electorate who lack unity as a result of divide-and-rule policy imposed.

  11. When I visited Malabo, I noticed that the FCFA in EG had TWO languages on it: French and Spanish.
However, the FCFA in the so-called BILINGUAL LRC, has only french on it.

There are only TWO ALTERNATIVES to resolve the present political impasse. Nothing more nothing less.

Alternative 1: A FEDERATION OF TWO STATES EQUAL IN STATUS ( as defined in UNGA Resolution 1608 of April, 21, 1961).

Alternative 2: If LRC cannot live in a FEDERATION of two states equal in status, then SC and LRC will go their separate ways as two independent countries ( as per the RIGHT OF SELF-DETERMINATION of the UN charter).

    • Were our soldiers not langa throats and mimbo eyes, some courageous young soldiers could have long sent Biya back to his Swiss country and launched immediate dialogue to safe CMR, without gambling first.

The system in place cannot allow Biya to open up, that is why this stuff is still going on. They are prepared to take us along with them to their graves.

Both Anglos and Francos should be wise—one forumite said the other day that we’re all going to be the losers—for sure…

    • @ Dali, Are you already giving up on separation and now want federation the majority of Cameroonians are asking for including the francophones you so much hate?Hahahaha gari done di pass ndiba

      • Where did I say that I have given up separation????

        I support either:

Alternative 1: A FEDERATION OF TWO STATES EQUAL IN STATUS ( as defined in UNGA Resolution 1608 of April, 21, 1961).

        OR

Alternative 2: If LRC cannot live in a FEDERATION of two states equal in status, then SC and LRC will go their separate ways as two independent countries ( as per the RIGHT OF SELF-DETERMINATION of the UN charter).

I do not hate Francophones. However, I hate the Francophone leadership WITH A PASSION.

You might be surprised to hear this from me:

        1. I have very many Francophone friends.
        2. One of the first love of my life was Beti, specifically an Eton lady.

        • @ Dali, It’s good to hear from people like you that the main problem is the Biya corrupt and oppressive regime and not our fellow francophone brothers and sisters. My point is for federation to work we need to join together and form a strong opposition to defeat the Biya regime next year. We can then sort out things after the monster is gone. Biya will never accept a federal system as he will lose power in certain areas of the country. He is a French puppet working for their interest which is mainly the SONARA and Bakassi oil. Most people don’t even know that the French have their army based in Man o War bay ready to jump in if things go wrong with their oil just like the US did in Iraq against the Sunnis they called Issis terrorist who were also being marginalized by their Shia gov’t.

        • Remember that my old screen name was ” BIYA MUST GO” and not “FRANCOPHONES MUST GO”. I have absolutely no problem with the Francophones as a “people”. However, the francophone junta in Etoudi is satanic. They will stop at nothing to remain power. My battle as an internet warrior is against the Etoudi Junta and not against my francophone brothers and sisters.
Believe me or not, a GENUINE FEDERATION can NEVER occur under the watch of Biya and his crime syndicate. That is the reason all Cameroonians should join in this fight to kick Biya away from Etoudi.

  12. @Ras Tuge ”Like i’ve said before, that war you are searching for will be a bloody tribal war… so don’t ever kid yourself thinking that you will be up against some Francophones”. Thats a good start..U are gradually disclosing your identity…Just continue like this,u will soon get there…Like i said, expressing yourself in English does not make u a southwesterner.

    • @ Kongosa It looks like if a wise anglophone doesn’t support that your madness they are automatically referred to as a Biya supporter or a francophone. We real anglophone Cameroonians will never let you anglophones with tainted Biafra blood separate us from our Cameroon francophone brothers just because we were separated by the colonialists which led to us speaking 2 different languages. Our protest is about the marginalization of Anglophones by the Biya regime and not separation. You guys with your wicked secret intentions have hijacked our protest. If you want to form your Ambazonia republic, go and join your Biafra brothers who also want to separate from Nigeria and form your Biafra Ambazonia there where they will eat and use you for their rituals. You will never ever separate us.

      • who are you.?butchers?who was your brother before colonisation?and what language were you speaking?dont mislead or taint history.before colonisation there wasnt any cameroon just handful of kingdoms n chiefdoms . how can u claim they divided ?we were never a country

        • @ Who formed Southern Cameroon?

        • @ ambas. As I said before, I am a free born Cameroonian with no Biafra tainted blood in me and we will never let you guys separate us because of f’cking colonial languages. You are free to go and join your ojukwu brothers if you feel more connected to them and form your Ambazonia Biafra republic there. They too want to separate from Nigeria. Just to remind you. The NW and SW have nothing in common except they both claim the same colonial language as their language. There is no common ancestry that can link them as one if you are talking of kingdoms back then. Learn your history before you bark.

    • @bobjazz

you re a wise man pls just educate those bastard ” they need to see what the white man have been doing around the world ”

      Cameroon is one

  13. @Ras Tuge We know u guys have been trying so hard to make this conflict to become a conflict between anglophones and francophones, but u have failed. The conflict is between anglophones and the gov’t.The military, acting on instructions of the gov’t have killed so many anglophones and some are in Nigeria as refugees. But no,anglophone has killed another francophone civilian in the NW and SW,and they will never kill any francophone civilian. So,your dream will not come to pass.Once again, thank u for disclosing to us that u are a francophone, who expresses himself well in English.

    • A conflict between ‘Anglophones and the government’… a government that is full of Anglophones! What have you done about the ANGLOPHONES IN THE GOVERNMENT that are working in tandem with FRANCOPHONES whom you have no conflict with? Rather than continue with your insanity and killing Francophone soldiers who are just going about their duties, ask yourself why you can neither compel nor persuade the Anglophones in the government to join you in your insanity. As far as i know, General Ivo Yenwo is still Biya’s right hand man… and the NW is under siege! Are you too scared to extend your threats to him, just like you did to Mbah Ndam to no avail?

If your project was compelling and feasible, people will join it willingly without recourse to threats of violence, intimidation, and vandalism.

  14. ambazonian from LRC

It is very angering, to see the situation becoming worst day after day when a frank dialogue since the beginning of the year should have avoided us all this wave of violence. I really want to understand why those who rule this country are so inconsistent, incapable to analyse situations and predict he future when it is their role to do so. Are they doing this on the purpose or are they simply incompetent ? To govern is to foresee.
Among all those who want the secession , a very few of them were for secession, perhaps the majority were for a return to federalism. Look at the situation barely 1 year after the beginning of the strike. We have a whole region which is ongoing to be ungovernable.

    • No region will be ungovernable in Cameroon. That’s your wish but it will not happen.

  15. La Republique does not understand what we are saying.
A suspension of the freedoms of people can only be orchestrated by a Parliament. Not a governor, or a senior prefect.
This is what it means to be an “anglophone”.
    We will never yield.
    We will be free.
    We shall defend ourselves.
    We march on to Buea.

  16. My brother Ambazonian from LRC,thank U!I have asked myself that question several times.I don’t really understand what is really wrong with this our African leaderships who cannot managed conflict resolutions! this is a situation that would have been anticipated and solved long ago but look at where we are today! To be honest i fear for the future of this Country,This regime only have one agenda to stay in power and that is where i start seeing the beginning to the end of this country if something is not done very very fast.Even the Bamilike’s have started putting thier own grivances on the table and just learned from Alafnet that 5 more gerdames where found dead at a check point in Mamfe last night!Oya!Cameroon emergence 2035!

  17. as long as french colonial puppet, dictator biya and his oppressive regime is unable to address long standing grievances, uses army oppression to suppress the people, calls the people of Southern Cameroons and unemployed innocent youths terrorists, dogs, the country will never be peaceful, the regime has killed and maimed over 350 peaceful demonstrators since November 2016, yet four evil army dies which is GREAT!!suddenly curfew is put in place, how can biya rule the entire lives of millions of civilians? this out of touch tired regime living in the past cannot dictate, curtail it’s people’s desire for Human rights Freedom anymore,SCs freedom is already established by millions, lrc and it’s colonial civil servants are dead, buried, insignificant to the people patriotic SCs!

  18. Any time you have people on exile, citizens chased into exile, using the gun to solve problems insread of dialog, covering up murder there will be war.Remember that the trigger is not owned by one man

  19. I just imagine how Douala and Yaoundé will be empty after DIVISION.
