One month after medal win, Tottenham’s N’Jie receives remarkable snub

It was just back on February 5 that Cameroon clinched the African Nations Cup, beating Egypt 2-1 in the final.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Clinton N’Jie was the sole Premier League player in the squad, although was an unused substitue as they lifted the trophy.

N’Jie played in the earlier rounds but lost his place, a similar tale to his Marseille spell since returning to the club where is on loan for the season.

He was thrust into a role up front due to injury, but has been a bit part player as a substitute after failing to impress.

Now he has learned he has been dropped by Cameroon for their upcoming friendly fixtures, French website Foot Sur-7 reports.

N’Jie was simply not selected for the squad, and was the only notable omission among their AFCON tournament heroes.

At the weekend he was a substitute against Lille, coming on for the final 31 minutes. He managed just 11 touches and could not make an impact in the 0-0 draw.

N’Jie’s season is unravelling, and the prospect of him forcing his way into Tottenham’s side next season currently looks slim.

  2. I wonder what is wrong with this young man. He thinks he has already arrived. I was personally not impressed with his performance at the AFCON. You have to seize opportunities and prove your worth. You must continuously work hard every day to be fit and ready. I hope this be a learning moment for you. Think about what is going wrong, stay focused and correct your mistakes. You are still young so have time to play catch up. No that a lot of people are looking up to you. You shouldn’t disappoint them.

    • Njie made a very big mistake when he moved from Lyon to Spurs. He was slowly gaining fame in Lyon but he erroneously thought he had arrived. He is reaping the seeds of bad decision he made. Since his left Lyon he’s been observing a “marche arrive.” Many Cameroonians saw him as the player who would give a name to the Cameroon anglophone sector but unfortunately, he’s not lived up to the bid. Too sad.
