Villages Burn as Cameroon Troops Clash With Separatists

VOA | KOM, CAMEROON — In Cameroon, officials say eight villages in the English-speaking northwest have been torched and hundreds of residents have fled amid clashes this week between security forces and separatist rebels.

Terence Fukah, a 33-year-old pig farmer, told VOA he fled his village of Ajin on Tuesday as the military responded to an attack by armed men.

“It was around five o’clock in the morning. I saw dead people lying down. I had to cross on top of them and run for my dear life,” Fukah said.

“I don’t even know where my children are. I don’t even know where my wife is. I don’t know how the pigs are doing, how many have died. I don’t know if my own house has been burned. I am crying, crying for the government to do something.”

The military says armed separatist rebels torched at least eight villages in northwest Cameroon; however, residents told VOA the fires were set by the military after the attackers had fled.

“We heard gunshots. We did not know exactly what to do. Everybody was running up and down,” said Thomas Tuboh, a maize farmer from the village of Anyajua. “It was the burning that made us to know our lives were at stake, so I decided to run away from Anyajua. When the military people invaded the area, the bridges were blocked and they decided to put them down with flames.”

He said his village is now nearly completely deserted.

“You see it is a farming area that helps the whole division and the region at large. I don’t know how we are going to cope if this persists,” Tuboh said.

General Agha Robinson, who is commanding troops in the northwest region, said his soldiers were not responsible for the burning.

The crisis began in November 2016 with a strike by Anglophone lawyers and teachers, who were demanding reforms to address what they say is the marginalization of the country’s English-speaking minority by French-speakers.

The situation spiraled into all-out conflict as separatists demanded independence for the two English-speaking regions.

Thirty-eight members of the military and hundreds of rebels have been killed in the fighting, according to Cameroon’s ministry of defense. The U.N. refugee agency says tens of thousands of people have fled their homes, with at least 20,000 crossing over to neighboring Nigeria in search of safety.

There appears to be little hope for dialogue. Separatists say they will not budge on secession. Meanwhile, Cameroon has refused to release dozens of detained separatist leaders, and President Paul Biya says he will entertain no talks that threaten national unity.

  1. Lies and deceit is the standard characteristic of this weak military. When a bully loses it all, he resorts to soft target which is why this confused military terrorists are picking on unarmed civilians as they loot, burn and rape their way in. You can lie all you want, appoint anglophone generals and ministers to head your genocide and cook fallacies that civilians burn the houses but we have evidences that implicates the regime and we will serve justice eventually. I advise the pig farmer to forget about his pigs because the armed terrorists must have voraciously devour everything that was of the livestock. If they can steal coffee and cocoa beans what more of pigs? Southern Cameroon shall be the fly that brought down the French/LRC giant. I swear on this.

    • ..separatists..

    • You can never win. Stop deceiving innocent Cameroonians. All your barbarism does is send anglophone villagers fleeing while the Biya regime destroys their home. Biya doesn’t care if anglophone villages are being destroyed and your madness is not achieving anything but bringing hardship to the anglophone villagers. Don’t worry, very soon the anglophones will turn against you. Ambazonia is the most stupid terrorist organization I have ever seen. Instead of attacking the people they claim to be their enemies, they are destroying the villages of those they claim to be fighting for. Boko Haram, Al Quada and ISIS never attacked in their own areas but in their so-called enemy’s territory. You Ambazonians are a bunch of morons. Why not conduct your useless attacks in Mvomeka if you have any b’lls.

      • AmbaBlood

This is clear evidence that your smelly Bamileke Pima mouth doesn’t have any truth left. How dare you exonerate the terrorist military here and lying the Amba homeland defenders are burning the house. Agent of LRC, your Mami yi fat Pima so. Go and die with your mouth like Pima for horse.

      • Bobjazz

You are one lying idiot. Only 3 days after General Meka came out and lied on Camera that the army is for the people see what they are doing. Is this vindictive justice because the chief refused to grant his appeal? What sort of heartless criminals are these blaming the slaughtered for living? I will make it a point to ignore you from now on. Total black hearts.

      • Bobjazz 100%
        Ambazombians na mumu them!

  2. When biya`s war will end any time, we will start the real war. Thanks goodness,
we mean what we say always. Those who have brain, will understand this.

    • You are an idiot. Is it because you haven’t lost a family member from this nonsense? This attacking and killing need to stop on both sides. Everyone should start calling family members back home and tell them to stop supporting the killings.

      • You are the real idiot if this is the time you want to start communicating with your family members back home.

      • @ Tormentor, and you, will be responsible to call the warlord ie. biya,
to stop being Pharoah. Good for you. Before then, tell your tchiroma
to stop singing the war song.
Biya refused to let sleeping dogs lie quietly, and he and his chop people
dem money gang, should be prepared. A tooth for a tat.

  3. @joshua

    So you has a brain

  4. The gang master is Biya Southern Cameroon has the right of self defence the war has not started yet Southern Cameroon independen is not a negotiable factor with the terrorist regime we shall see the end

    • @ Good man.

What war are you talking about? The people suffering in this your madness are the anglophone villagers. Some in Bakundu are already running to CPDM for protection. It’s just a matter of time before the anglophone community starts flushing you Ambazonians out. The anglophones can’t keep on suffering because of your stupidity. Your silly kidnapping of anglophones won’t make Biya blink but force him to burn more anglophone villages. Biya is the one winning here as divide and conquer makes his day. Very soon the anglophone villagers will turn against you to protect their villages. Just wait and see. What a bunch of morons.

      • You have been saying this your Mami Pima for more than a year now and yet our resistance keeps growing. Your brain is wired exactly like Biya’s smelly Bamileke pig. This is not Kamto’s party, your mouth like Pima for cockroach.

        • Ambablood where is it growing? In our villagers . Stop this lies! Many young guys are dying for no reason

      • Finally you agree that your government is the one burning down the villages. This is interesting. In today’s world truth does not hide

  5. Lrcs military is so friendly and peace loving that the locals run to embrace them when they see them coming.how can anyone claim biyas angels are the ones burning down whole villages,”how can you say that”?the villagers that are saying the military did the burnings must be very mentally deranged.

Lrc is going to pay for all of the atrocities committed against the people of Ambazonia.more boys are joining our ranks, and we will never drop our guns untill lrcs military leaves our land.they are our primary targets, and we will make sure we drink afofo out of their skulls.we are still getting warmed up.

  6. The TOTAL, COMPLETE and UNCONDITIONAL resolution of the Anglophone Question will be gotten this time around come rain come shine.
The burning down of complete villages by terrorists from LRC will never ever stop the present momentum.

Dictator Biya was thinking of a BLITZKRIEG when he declared war on the peaceful people of SC. He has now realised that it will be an open-ended war. His UNWINNABLE war might only end by 2035 after his so-called “one and indivisible” LRC has emerged.

Timber vehicles from LRC no longer harvest wood in SC. The few that dare to brave the odds are burnt down to ashes. The economic costs of this war should not be underestimated. The macroeconomic costs to the economy; the opportunity costs of not investing war FCFA in alternative sectors; etc.

    THE WAR CONTINUES

  7. Unarmed citizens defeating military men without arms, they feel terrified and resulting to burning innocent peoples homes as a means of revenge, when boko ha boys up there hit them hard their angry minds are tilted towards unarmed citizens what a shame that the govt declared war on innocent protesters, for close to 2 years the dictator doesnt feel like addressing the crisis .Worst country on earth.

    • Biya is capitalizing on a war with SC, because he has the military. They too,
are excited because they have guns etc to wipe those Anglofools. We have
wonderfull weapons that will start functioning soon. The last fight and that
which history will record, is in the fireplace cooking. Once beaten, twice shy.

      • People of YDe,DLa,Bfsm,Bertwa etc.. have experienced war in the years 60ies to gain independence they lost their sons and daughters whereas terrorists were eating jama -jama, water fufu and Eru they never knew what is war we gave them the opportunity to be part of an independent country taught them how to read, write and speak today they call us envaders, foreigners etc… Because of their ungratefulness we will get rid of them by all means as well as anyone backing them to show them that idiocy can be contagious.

        • Correction. You larepublicans had very few schools. Your leader Ahidjo was an illiterate post office boy. Dr. Endeley and others had graduate education from Nigeria and Britain. Several other Ambazonians had been educated to the tertiary level at Furabay college in Sierra Leone.
Whether it be Sasse College established in 1939 or St. Francis College Fiango est 1949 or Queen of the Rosary College Okoyong Mamfe established in 1956 or Sacred Heart Mankon est 1961 or Saker Baptist college established 1962 or Our lady of Lourdes Mankon (1963), NEITHER the BUIlDINGS, education, values or spirit of these institutions had anything to do with larepublicans.
Even our mobile wing training school from Ambazonian days is what you are using as your école de police Nationale without significant changes

        • Thank you Epee for your very informative post.

        • No problem my brother, francophones are fed and raised in falsehood.
The first school was built in Bimbia in Fako Division in 1884 by the Jamaican Joseph Merrick. 6 other Anglophone schools would be built in Limbe and Douala an overwhelming 45 years before the first francophone school would be built by the Swiss Protestant mission in the centre and south provinces in 1890.
Anybody who says larepublicans taught Anglophones education is in need of education themselves.
My contribution to the Ambazonian struggle will be to tear down the wall of lies of Larepublique.
It is clear that the backwardness they seem to have as a people can be attributed to the more recent nature of education within their ranks. We forgive them for it but it doesn’t give them the license to kill us. Amba= Free

      • @joshua

You re always talking trash here , you are on the wrong side of the history.

  8. True ; let them taste little bit so next time they will rethink

  9. @ So,u fougt in the 60s to gain independence?Ha ha ha ha..Are u a humourist by profession? what is your reserve doing in France then,if u are independent? If u say u fought in the 60s to achieve independence and your reserve is still been kept in Paris, then i think u have to fight again.Don’t be coward.Man up and face your enemy.I know that Algeria fought and the 50s and 60s to achieve independence. But i don’t know about LRC. As for u people,we will deal with u squarely……
So, Ahidjo taught Dr.Foncha and Dr.Endeley how to read and write?

    • Is it today you know that Cameroon reserve is located in France? You see how funny you are my friend?

      • Dirty Bamileke Pig with dirty mouth like Pima for Chantal Biya. Wowo smelly barefoot terrorist. You will die soon by stoning devil. Your Mami yi old Pima.

    • Kongosa

Do you fought for 1961 , your independence was just given to you freeeeeee so shut up and go read your history terrorist

      • Is that why your maggot full mouth think you can seize the independence? Your Mami yi smelly Bamileke pima. Dirty illiterate barefoot swine with mouth like Pima for dog.

      • Larepublicans and ignorance, Anglophone independence is fought in parliaments not in the jungle, that is left for frogs. Ghana, Nigeria, Ambazonia all fought in parliament beginning in the 1940s.
In Ambazonia we voted in 1954 rebelling against the parliament in Enugu, ah those were gallant men and women! We succeeded. Votes in 1959 again turned changed governments freely and fairly, something unknown to francophones to this day.
Our independence was not given in a golden platter, it was hard fought . Get that clear.

  10. @Kongosa my brother don’t worry about Colby the man is a junk yard dog who is here to throw dirt.

  11. The only people of ambazonia i know are the demons possessed and lunatics so called anglophones who scornefully made it abroad. Now that u are there,u give banga and all kind of dirty drugs to the youth, not telling them of ur sufferings in the locations u tought were heaven.when these drugs addicts meet jah, they commit all types of inhuman atrocities and u do the rest:telling the world via social media that cameroon soldiers are the one.how will u always be innoncent when u are always attackin? We were forcely paying a daily tax of 1000 francs to the fucking ambazonia forces just recentely. Thank GOD for cameroon forces who free us from evil ambafools. U all pretend to love us and u are killing us.GOD WILL PUNISH U ALL. DEVILS.

  12. In fact the present momentum in the ADF camp is very high and there is no going back at all. We are going forward and the independence is guaranteed very soon. I only cry for those fleeing and leaving everything behind for those pigs called security forces to devour them. Its a pity. What i used to see in Sudan,Syria,Yemen etc has touched my people. My peaceful people are now refugees and homeless people.Oh God where are you?

    • @gentlemaniry

See who is talking please don’t go back keep going forward.

After drinking your Guinness or Hennessy you re coming here talking trash, most of you are not even citizen of Cameroon no more .

  13. Your bad english is a complete reason, for all not to interact with you
because it is an example of emptiness. It brings to the fore, how even
the gov`t is letting down cameroon when it sends out francophones
to represent the country. On TV, it is sickening, hearing you guys
murder the english language. These are the little things, that make it
very disgusting to have the frogs as bedmates.

  14. @Bamendaboy Did u say our independence was given to us?Are we independent? If we were fighting against Britain to achieve our independent,it would have been better. But we are fighting against another African country,LRC,that have hold our independence since 1961,on the guise of ”national unity”

Say that Nigeria’s independence was given to them free.SC have been recolonised by LRC.

  15. @bobjazz ”The people suffering in this your madness are the anglophone villagers. Some in Bakundu are already running to CPDM for protection”.So u care so much about anglophones? thank u for your care, but we don’t need it.Focus on your military that are been slaughtered in SC and care about them.Did u say anglophones are running to CPDM for protection? ha ha ha ha.So,CPDM are the right people to protect anglophones?and at the same time u say Biya will burn more villages? ha ha ha ha…Do u have malaria or something?
”It’s just a matter of time before the anglophone community starts flushing you Ambazonians out.The anglophones can’t keep suffering because of your stupidity”.Its just a matter of time before the army starts flushing CPDM out. They can’t keep dying becos of CPDM’s stupidity

  16. No One has Ever won a War against his own people.Remember The Arab Spring was a series of pro-democracy uprisings that enveloped several largely Muslim countries, including Tunisia, Morocco, Syria, Libya, Egypt and Bahrain. The events in these nations generally began in the spring of 2011, which led to the name. However, the political and social impact of these popular uprisings remains significant today, years after many of them endeded.where are the Arab Dictators Now? Never Underestimated what Frustrated Hardworking Citizens can do to reclaim their dignity and Self worth!

  17. The struggle is paying off, isn’t it?. It is no longer business as usual. Independence is far and can never be gotten by mere peaceful protest in this modern world of ours, i think the Eritrean and S/ Sudanese understood this, and decided to take the bull by the horn, the SC people understand this as well, and they have taken their destiny in their hands to match towards achieving their freedom. Freedom as the word implies, is to be free from dominance by externalities, it is never given freely, it is fought for by the oppressed. Surely there is price to pay to achieve independence, and the SC people have started paying it, some with their lives and others with their properties. Beside, history remember the battle and forget the blood, it remembers the need that does it all, and only remember a fraction of the truth (A. Lincoln). The world is paying attention to the inhuman treatment of the SC people, the UN is also watching from a distance, Biya should by now have a rethink, what the two STATES MAP given to

  18. This would have been avoided.you understand the gravity of this situation when a family member of yours goes down. That is when you understand that this issue is real.so sad.

  19. This is what happens when a dictator is in power.

  20. Self Governance Means people Electing their own officials and Representatives. From the Governor’s to the Senior Divisional Officer’s and Counselors. Where in The World is it Acceptable that some Strangers from somewhere is appointed leader of a people or an Administrator of a place that he doesn’t know the geography and doesn’t know the Culture , doesn’t know the needs of the Area.Just fly some Clown in and say hey you , Take Command. Like he is going to commanding Illiterates. No One in Anglophone Cameroon wants this Biya appointees. End of story
