Cameroon Asylum-Seekers Must Not Be Deported, U.S. Congressional Leaders Say

Black Star News | Congressmember Karen Bass (D-CA), Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, along with Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-MS), Congresswoman Shelia Jackson-Lee (D-TX), Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA), Congressman Joaquin Castro (D-TX), and Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-MD) have issued a statement calling for a halt to deportation of asylum-seekers from Cameroon:

“Our offices have been alerted that African asylum-seekers from Cameroon and other African countries, many of whom were allegedly improperly coerced by ICE to sign voluntary deportation orders, will be deported as early as tomorrow morning. Upon their arrival to their designated countries, many will be at imminent risk of death. Their deportation should be put on hold until the new administration is sworn in and able to carefully review these claims. Anything otherwise is outrageous and unacceptable.

We plan to introduce a measure this week to condemn this deportation should it take place. The United States should uphold its commitment under international treaties related to refugees and asylum-seekers and halt this unjust deportation.”

  1. We put fire in our own house to become refugees in the land of enslavers.worste we call it fighting for freedom.can the brain be more destroyed than this

  2. It is not a problem of the new admin. This lack of considering Africans and
Cameroonians as Humans, help cost Deaf Trump his re-election travails.
Trump doesn`t see Africans as a formidation group of humans. Why deport
people back to their deaths????????????????, Trump and the US gov`t ?????
    Why are you so wicked?

  3. The League of Nations statuate s and the progress to be later on ,the United Nations with diverse offices placed in the US
Is quite frankly not looking beneficial to the basic human rights that both entities have been founded on ..The tap of human rights just can’t be just turned on or off like this .
Suspension of voting rights and offices in America should be deferred from working until a new president of America is in power and even then the USA will have to be majority voted ,by UN members ,back in ,who cares how much of its budget comes from USA it’s taxpayers money and they wouldn’t want to be on a death plane.
certain principles have to be upheld ( and the same thing should happen to any other countries sending political asylum seekers back )if that plane leaves .
    Period .

  4. Cameroon should not be pushed around and told what to do ! Cameroon is also is a member of the UN ,it even had a special mandate mention in the first papers of the League of Nations ( when the USA wasn’t even a member ) the government should firmly refuse to give permission for the plane to land since they cant fully guarantee certain passengers human rights that are traveling on the plane,so they are at least abiding by the fundamental principles of the UN ….unlike the USA .
