Cameroonian police on high alert over possible separatist attacks in capital

YAOUNDE, Jan. 27 Xinhua | Cameroon’s police are on high alert over possible separatist attacks in the capital, Yaounde, a senior police officer said on Monday.

Cameroon police chief Martin Mbarga Nguelle said security forces have been on high alert since receiving relevant intelligence reports.

He urged the police to adopt a higher level of vigilance in “sensitive posts” and to report any suspicious activities.

Nguelle warned that the attackers mainly use motorcycles to undertake their operations.

Police sources said some of the “wanted and notorious” armed separatists have already made contacts with “their friends” as they plan to sneak into the capital and other urban centers to launch attacks.

Armed separatists want the Northwest and Southwest English-speaking regions to secede from the majority French-speaking Cameroon and form a new country known as “Ambazonia.” They have been clashing with government forces since 2017.

Last Friday, Cameroonian president Paul Biya said on last Friday, although the security situation in the regions has improved, “few (separatist) groups” continue to commit atrocities and to destroy the property of citizens.

  1. Why hide the source of info and exposure, of those caught already? Equinoxe TV,
usually shows pictures of thieves etc etc and they make news credible.
Come up with another lie, to start harassing, killing, jailing SC, in your major cities.
I lay my blame on Southern Cameroonians, who have refused to fight to gain the
liberation of the state of West Cameroon – Ayaba Cho, Fru Ndi, Mafany Musonge,
Dion Ngute etc etc etc etc etc.

  2. Chase the fighters from the villages and they move into the cities. Guerilla warfare will be the next phase and innocent people will be the victims. Stop this nonsense! The only winner is a meaningful NEGOTIATION, and not dialogue (conversation between two or more people).

  3. Larepublique is telling lies as usual.
We defend our land we never attack

  4. It went from the situation in the northwest and southwest is stabilizing and the commission for bilingualism can now start its work, to accepting the anglophone problem in real terms by offering the two regions a hideous special status. It will soon go from although the security situation in the regions has improved, “few (separatist) groups” continue to commit atrocities and to destroy the property of citizens, to outright separation, if the authorities continue to mock Southern Cameroonians with their stupidity and dirty games. There are only two solutions to this problem; federalism at minimum or outright separation.

  5. Seperatist fighters have no interests in Yaoundé. Why all these lies?
