School attendance improving in Cameroon’s restive Anglophone regions

Xinhua | School attendance is improving in Cameroon’s two English-speaking regions that have been ravaged by separatist violence since 2016, local officials said on Wednesday.

Schools, particularly in rural areas that shut down because of violence, are gradually reopening, according to Adolph Lele Lafrique, governor of the Northwest, one of the troubled regions, without giving further details.

“We are seeing students coming back to school in their numbers, schools are also gradually reopening. The situation is generally improving,” Lafrique told reporters after visiting some schools in the region.

“We want to believe that this year will be a normal year for schools. The security of the children is guaranteed. We are pleased with the number of children coming to school,” said Bernard Okalia Bilai, governor of South-west region.

Separatists enforced a school boycott in the troubled regions since 2016 to protest against what they described as educational injustices against English-speakers.

The four-year school boycott has left more than 800,000 children out of school, according to UNICEF, also known as the UN Children’s Fund.

Last week, two key separatist leaders, for the first time in four years, called for school reopening in the regions, stressing that school boycott “is no longer a weapon” for the struggle for independence.

In 2017, separatist fighters began clashing with government forces in a bid to establish an independent nation they call “Ambazonia” in the two Anglophone regions of largely French-speaking Cameroon.

The new school year in Cameroon started on Monday.

  1. Those going to school will graduate and come back to rule those who have decided not to be educated et c’est ça la vérité!

    • you talk because you don’t kn0w that is going on in the southern Cameroon ….. people are suffering and dyeing everyday … if you are a parent can you afford to sent your child to be killed

  2. The importance of attending school or not attending school in the so-called “one and indivisible” LRC is irrelevant.

    Why?????????????????????????????????????????????????

because even school dropouts and ex-convicts can be appointed ministers in that God-forsaken country.

    Où sont les preuves ??????????????????????????????????

Ex-convict and school dropout Atanga Nji is a living testimony of the above-mentioned STATEMENT OF FACTS.
Simply put, the CRIMINALS ruling LRC are begging children to go to schoolin SC in order to prove to the international community that the situation in SC hasstabilized. Theydo not do that inthe interests of the children in SC.
This is another example of the rule by deceit and deception.

    • CONCLUSION

LRC is ruled by the most corrupt, dishonest, faithless, deceitful, arrogant, foolish, stupid, despicable, evil, demonic and insensitive CRIMINALS on planet earth.

A country ruled by deceit, deception and terror is likened to a house built on sand.
It is common knowledge and a celebrated fact that a house built on sand cannot stand for long.

Thank God, Dictator Biya’s UNWINNABLE, UNSTOPPABLE; UNCONTROLLABLE and financially UNSUSTAINABLE war will rescue the Anglophones from that sh*thole VIVRE-ENSEMBLE with LRC.

      GOD IS INDEED GREAT

    • you are going to school to be appointed a minister? aren’t you happy you can read and write. why deprive innocent children the privilege of being educated?. Are you sure your children are not going to school in solidarity with those in rural areas that your ambazonia soldiers have stopped from going to school?. Ambazonia facebook country go do wandas. B’da pple with dullness. make them no go school. monkey them. hahahahahah

  3. Living by lies can only go so far!
So much talk about school resumption in what an astute observer calls ” les ecoles sans locaux” brought into being by presidential decrees to produce the future bendskin riders of the country!
    Children deserve better, much better.

    • An educated bendskin rider who can read road signs because he went to school is better than one who never went to school. Ambafools wonna go school.

  4. Those two separatists, are bastards. So we need to garri them.

  5. As a corollary to my above-posted write up. thousands of school children are still languishing in concentration camps in SC and in LRC.
If the CRIMINALS ruling the so-called “one and indivisible” were so concerned about the education of Southern Cameroonian children, those children bould have also be released.
Of course, the call for school resumption in SC is simply for the consumption of the international community. It has nothing to do with the future of SC children.
School boycott has proven to the world that LRC is no longer in control of SC.
Lttle wonder that LRCsponsored newspapers were using the names of -Mark Breta and Eric Tataw to NEG children to go to school. The pictures of the above-mentioned “TERRORISTS” were omnipresent on the front pages of all the newspapers.
