CAMEROONONLINE.ORG | Atlanta United has made a major addition to its attack, signing Switzerland international Breel Embolo from Stade Rennais as a Designated Player. The 29-year-old forward joins the Five Stripes on a contract through the 2029-30 season, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa.
Embolo arrives in Atlanta with extensive experience across some of Europe’s top leagues. Over 380 professional appearances in Switzerland, Germany and France, he has recorded 100 goals and 66 assists while also featuring regularly in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.
His international résumé is just as impressive. Embolo has scored 26 goals in 92 appearances for Switzerland and recently helped the national team reach the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, contributing two goals and two assists across six starts.
Atlanta United Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson highlighted Embolo’s goal-scoring ability, link-up play and work rate as qualities that should strengthen the club at center forward.
With experience at clubs including FC Basel, Schalke 04, Borussia Mönchengladbach, AS Monaco and Stade Rennais, Embolo brings a combination of pedigree, physical presence and attacking production to Atlanta as the club continues building its roster for the future.
